The quince bloomed during a pleasant little burst of spring a few weeks ago.
But, since I took these pictures we’ve had one freeze, another one is forecast for tonight, and there’s another cold front with freezing temps coming this weekend.
But the bees were making the best of the weather and the profusion of blossoms.
Check out his fat little legs. They’re coated with pollen that he’s brushed against while burrowing into the center of the flower for the good stuff.
Some of them got so heavy with pollen they struggled to stay on course.
The quince has greened up for the most part with just a few spots of coral remaining among the branches. The bees have moved on to the miniature hyacinths that blanket the yard with purple. At least that’s where they’re hanging out until the cold moves in this afternoon and they go wherever bees go when it’s cold.
Are there any blooms or little critters popping up in your neighborhood?
